Snoring can lead to serious health conditions
There is no such thing as harmless snoring. Left untreated, snoring will worsen over time, potentially leading to life-threatening conditions.
The latest evidence links snoring with:
- High blood pressure (hypertension)
- An increased risk of stroke and sudden death
- Cardiovascular disease
Loud snoring not only deprives other people of their much-needed sleep (as well as lead to potential relationship problems!), but it can be an indication that you have sleep apnoea.
At Dental Sleep Professionals, we provide a treatment called a Mandibular Advancement Splint (MAS). It’s a fitted mouthguard between your teeth, which helps to keep your airway unobstructed so that snoring is minimised.
What is the process for getting a Mandibular Advancement splint (MAS)?
We’ll first diagnose your snoring, either by conducting an in-house sleep study or by referring you to a sleep clinic. The sleep study will show the severity of your snoring and whether you have sleep apnoea. (Over 10% of regular snorers have Obstructive Sleep Apnoea to a significant degree.)
Following your sleep study you will attend a consultation with Dr Joachim who will review your dental status to assess your suitability for MAS therapy. During this process we take moulds of your mouth (don’t worry, it’s completely painless!). We then go through the meticulous and comprehensive process of getting your Mandibular Advancement Splint made. We’ll fit you with your MAS within 2-4 weeks of the moulds being taken.
