Your MAS Treatment Process

Treatment with a mandibular advancement splint runs in three stages: getting started, fitting your device. Here is the short version of each, with a link to the detail.

No referral is needed to book. Clinics are available across NSW and Queensland.

1. Getting Started

At your first appointment Dr Ngiam goes through your symptoms, your medical history and your dental health, then talks through whether an oral appliance suits your situation. Bring any sleep study you have already had. If you need one, it can be arranged for you to do at home, in your own bed, and reported by a sleep physician.

Once you have agreed on a device, we take digital scans of your teeth. No putty impressions.

2. Fitting Your MAS Device

At the fitting appointment Dr Ngiam shows you how to put the device in and take it out, then adjusts it for comfort and fit.

Expect a short settling-in period. Extra saliva, a dry mouth or tender teeth in the first days to couple of weeks are common and usually pass, a bit like getting used to a retainer. Anything that does not settle is dealt with at your follow-up, where the device can be adjusted further. Adjustment is part of treatment, not an extra.

3. Caring For Your Device

Looking after your splint takes about a minute a day. Brush your teeth before you put it in, brush the device with a soft-bristled toothbrush and mild soap after each use, dry it, and store it in its case. Soak it in denture cleaner once a week.

Come back for a review every 6 to 12 months so the fit, the device and your teeth can all be checked. Your appliance carries a 3-year warranty and generally lasts five to seven years.

Cancellation Policy

When you book, you are holding a place on the calendar that is no longer available to anyone else. If you cannot make it, please call as soon as you know — we ask for at least two business days’ notice. You will also get an SMS asking you to confirm 48 hours beforehand.

Cancellations made later than that, and missed appointments, attract a $50.00 fee.
